Many first time home buyers need the assistance of a good real estate agent who can explain the real estate terminology and home buying process in a way that is easily understandable. By educating buyers they become empowered to make informed decisions.

Buying your first home should be a fun and exciting time in your life. The first step to being an informed buyer is to understand the terminology you will be hearing throughout the process. I am including what I call my First Time Home Buyers ABC's. These terms will be used in the contract you will enter into when purchasing a home in the State of Virginia.Appraisal - a witten estimate reflecting the value of real property Broker - Most Realtors are "agents" who work under a "broker." A broker is one who acts as an agent, bringing two parties together for a transaction and is paid a fee. Contingency - A condition that must be met before a contract becomes legal. Deed of trust - In states that do not record mortgages, a deed of trust is recorded. Escrow - Your earnest money deposit will be put into an escrow account and will be delivered to the seller when the transaction is complete. Fixtures - Personal property that becomes real property when permanently attached to real estate.
